This Sunday, Sept. 30 - Solidarity Action with
the Coalition of Immokalee Workers
http://stpeteforpeace.org/immokalee.html On September 30, members of the Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW)-- a farmworker organization from Immokalee, FL--will be stopping in St. Petersburg as part of a state-wide "Focus on Florida" mini tour to bring people together for education and action around its current campaign against Miami-based Burger King. The CIW has already secured two groundbreaking agreements with both Yum Brands and McDonald's to improve wages and working conditions for thousands of Florida tomato pickers in those companies' supply chains, and has now turned its "Campaign for Fair Food" to Miami-based Burger King, asking them to do the same. And yet, in the face of this historic opportunity to improve the lives of the men and women who pick its tomatoes, Burger King has refused to work with the CIW, an act which threatens to undermine the hard-won advances established in the Yum Brands and McDonalds agreements. Please make plans to join the CIW for the following events in St. Petersburg on Sunday, September 30th: 6:30pm - Peaceful Rally for Justice at Burger King: 4570 34th St. S. Join the CIW and their local student, faith and community allies for a spirited action at Burger King. Art will be available, but feel free to make and bring your own! 7:45pm - Film Screening & Campaign Presentation: Cafe Bohemia, 937 Central Ave. Come out to Cafe Bohemia to learn more about the lives of Florida farmworkers, the CIW and how you can take action locally to support the Campaign for Fair Food. For more information or with any questions, please contact Meghan Cohorst at meghan@sfalliance.org or 727.744.7706. http://stpeteforpeace.org/immokalee.html _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ FREE FILM SHOWINGS

"The Ground Truth:The Human Cost of War"
This is a good way to support the troops; hear what THEY are saying in this recent documentary. This is something that has not been covered a whole lot by our news media, but it's important to hear what those who do the fighting have to say about the War in Iraq. Sponsored by the Green Party of Hernando Co. For more information contact mailto:greencat9@juno.com
